Robert Indiana @ YSP

I’ve never been one to brag, but we consider ourselves very lucky to have Yorkshire Sculpture Park within striking distance. Over the years, we’ve seen several of our favourite artists exhibit in its grounds and galleries.

Consider our excitement when Robert Indiana staged his first ever major European exhibition here towards the back end of 2022 and luckily enough, a certain bug just happened to ‘bugger’ off around then.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Indiana’s work: He was one of the founders of the pop art movement, celebrating the darker side of the American dream.

An advocate for many human rights issues, Indiana used bold graphic style, sharp clean lines and solid impenetrable colours.
From the late 1950’s, a time of vast social and political change, Indiana’s work pushed unity, acceptance and love, themes that are timeless and a huge inspiration behind A Type of Art.
